Dermaplaning 101

Lets talk Dermaplaning.. over the past few months the popularity of this treatment has become all the buzz… because of all that fuzz (pun intended). People are either die-hards or hesitant with the thought of “shaving the face”. The truth is that dermaplaning has been around for decades, but as of late has taken on a life of its own. Bloggers are blogging about it, beauty experts are praising it and even “The Doctors” did a segment on it!

How does it work?

Dermaplaning is designed to exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin whilst removing unwanted facial hair. It involves the use of a sterile surgical blade called an ‘Epi-blade’, which is drawn over the skin, removing the outermost epidermal layer of cells and hair.

If you are thinking to yourself “you want to do what to my face”.
Don’t worry you are not the only one.

Yes, a sterile blade is used, and yes many initially express concerns.

All of whom however, quickly come to love the results. The treatment itself is also surprisingly relaxing with some clients falling asleep during the process!

Dermaplaning is for both men and women of all skin types and tones. The treatment will stimulate new cell growth and the production of collagen and elastin by removing the dead skin cells and keeping pores clean and free of blockages. It also reduces bacteria that exhibit around the follicles, contributing to acne.

Dermaplaning is completely safe and pain free. Some describing the sensation as a slight scratching on the face. It tends to remove slightly more skin than microdermabrasion with the added advantage of removing fine facial hair. This treatment may be performed every 4 -6 weeks.

Dermaplaning benefits:

  • increases the rate of new cell turnover in the deeper levels of the skin
  • stimulates production of new collagen and elastin
